Death // Ecclesiastes 9
Death is a fact of life. You can avoid thinking about it, but you cannot avoid the appointment (Heb. 9:27). The only way to be prepared for death is to receive God’s gift of eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ (John 3:16; Rom. 6:23; 1 John 5:9–13), and then obey God’s will until He calls you.
The reality of death need not rob you of the enjoyment of life. God wants you to enjoy feasts (Ecc. 9:7–8) and family (Ecc. 9:9) and the work He has called you to do (Ecc. 9:10). Life is unpredictable (Ecc. 9:11 but it need not be irrational. Let God give you wisdom to use each day profitably for His glory (Ecc. 9:16–18). The thought of death should energize you, not paralyze you (Phil. 1:19–26; 2 Tim. 4:6–8).
